Feedback: Is Blogger a pain in the butt?

#sims3challenge #sims3legacy #sims3story #thesims3

OK, I think at this point I've read remarks from at least six distinct readers that they have trouble commenting on this blog. I'm watching Sims blogs on Blogger disappear, and all the new ones are WordPress. Some Blogger blogs are being migrated to WordPress.

There's not a lot of conversation going on in the comment section these. I have a couple readers who comment here, a couple who comment on my Boolprop thread who say they can't comment on the blog, and a couple who comment on my Sims Facebook group (I'm happy to invite anyone who wants to reach out to my real identity. I'm Susan Rati Lane, and that name's UNIQUE dangit.)

The most common single comment theme I've been reading in the last few months is along the lines of, "Hey! Did I finally get this to work?"

I didn't think I'd be able to migrate my insanely large archive to WordPress, but it turns out there's an easy wizards to do this. I am seriously considering it.

I'd love to hear from folks who are having trouble. I have Anonymous comments open on this blog, and you can also comment on the Sample Boolprop thread if you have an account there: http://boolprop.net/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=412

The most common problem sounds like people having trouble posting under their WordPress IDs. I never see this problem, obviously, because I post under a Google Profile. But I created a separate one SPECIFICALLY for Sims blogging because I wanted to have a Sims-specific profile. I'm not particularly trying to hide my identity. Most of my friend just don't, *gasp* play The Sims, and I don't want to dedicate a bunch of space to this hobby on my general profile. Also, I wanted a profile pic of my simself :-p.

At any rate, the hubby is a Googler. He doesn't work on a project even remotely related to Blogger, but he can put in an internal bug report. (Actually, works on project Sun Roof! Look it up! It's awesome!)

Even if I migrate, it'd be nice to give them a chance to fix it.

ETA:Well, that was laughably simple. I ported my on-hiatus Nothing Is Free challenge over to WordPress. It even got all the comments. The theme is depressingly boring, but I guess I can figure that out another time.

  1. Okay, trying one last time to see if I can get this comment thing to work. Can you see this? Can you??! If not, there is no justice in this world.

    1. WHAT THE ACTUAL. Okay, it appears that I only have troubles with this on my laptop, which is where I tried to leave you like seventeen heartfelt comments on chapters from Susie all the way to Charles. Anyway, migrating seems like it would be a pain, but you do what you have to do. If that means infiltrating Google and getting them to sort their shit out, then I'm all for that.

    2. Well, now it's not working anymore (at least from my WordPress account). I don't know what to say. :P

    3. Dude. You said a ton. If you lost a ton of comments like that, I am seriously pissed off.

It sounds like migrating may be my best option. I'm kind of grumpy about it because Blogger has been a comfortable platform to post from. I know WordPress has more features, but I don't really need any more features. I wrote a little script (in Applescript, for !@#$'s sake) to assemble my pictures for me, and then I just paste in the HTML and add text.

But I have a !@#$ Master's degree in Computer Science. I should be able to figure out stupid blogging platform.

Watch this space for more updates.
